You can receive Orthodontic treatment at any age

Wanting orthodontic treatment when you’re an adult is perfectly normal. Whether you’re in your 20s, 50s, or 80s, it is never too late to undergo orthodontic treatment. In fact, orthodontic treatment is possible no matter your age. At Escott Orthodontics, we understand that every patient has unique goals and motivations for treatment and that is why we customize our treatment for each of our patients.

Orthodontic Treatment is the Physiological Process of Moving Teeth into the Correct Position

The process of wearing braces is to move misaligned teeth into the correct positions for optimal esthetics and improved function. This may include closing gaps/spaces, straightening out crowded or rotated teeth, and improving how the bite functions. A person’s age doesn’t prevent teeth from moving and therefore we can design orthodontic treatment for patients of all ages.

Thoughtful Orthodontic Treatment is Important for Adults

Adults very often have a number of special considerations that must be factored in to their orthodontic treatment in order to create the best possible result. This is because adults may have a lifetime of dental work (fillings, crowns, implants), worn teeth, or compromises in their gum tissue. Some of these problems could have been made worse by un-resolved orthodontic problems, such as wear or broken teeth caused by poorly functioning bites. Each of these conditions needs to be carefully considered and managed during orthodontic treatment to create the most esthetic result with the healthiest function.

Fortunately, Dr. Escott is a true, certified specialist in orthodontic treatment with extensive training in managing these challenges. As part of his 3-year residency for orthodontic training, Dr. Escott worked in an interdisciplinary specialty clinic with periodontists, endodontists, oral surgeons, and prosthodontists to treat the most complicated of dental problems. Furthermore, Dr. Escott practices for a number of years as a general family dentist prior to becoming an orthodontist and he therefore has tremendous insight in the restorative process. Dr. Escott is a great addition to your dental team; he will work closely with your general family dentist and your other dental specialists to carry out your personal treatment needs and goals.

Treatment Options for Adults (Types of Braces)

Your orthodontic treatment may be performed using various techniques, including braces or removable clear aligners. Removable clear aligners (like Invisalign) allow you to achieve your orthodontic results using nearly invisible “aligners” that fits snugly around the teeth. Braces are another option and are now available in clear styles, in addition to traditional metal styles.

Age Doesn’t Prevent You from Getting a Better, More Beautiful Smile

You’re not too old for orthodontic treatment. Just because you couldn’t obtain braces as a child doesn’t mean you can’t do so as an adult. In fact, Dr. Escott himself had orthodontic treatment as an adult, so he understands the motivation of our older patients wanting to improve their smile and dental health.
